CAS to rule on Petacchi doping case
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will rule on Italian rider Alessandro Petacchi's positive doping test at the Giro d'Italia, CAS confirmed on Monday.
Petacchi was exonerated by the Italian Cycling Federation after arguing he used the banned substance salbutamol in his asthma inhaler.
But his explanation did not satisfy the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) which said earlier this month it would press for a one-year ban.
The Milram rider, who had a medical certificate allowing him to use a set amount of salbutamol, won five stages of the Giro in May but was forced to miss the Tour de France following CONI's protest.
Confirming its receipt of CONI's appeal, CAS said in a news release on Monday it expected to issue a ruling inside four months.
